A read an article delivered to my mail box a few days ago.  It was originally in The Globe & Mail in Canada.  It was about the controversial topic  ‘fat versus thin.’

I write on health topics and I teach health education online to Internet users worldwide. I rely on current data with evidence.  There are unavoidable health risk factors such as age, gender and race but overweight is not one of them.  Being of a healthy weight does have  health benefits and can be avoided.

Being fat may be attractive to some ,  but beauty is aslo in the eyes of the beholder.

Unfortunately some illnesses may  not be  apparent until it is too late,  while we continue to be physical attractive to the the beholder.

The question is are we having a fat moment?

Although fats and oil have not been included in the four food groups a certain amount is necessary fro a healthy eating patttern.  Oil and fats supply calories and help our bodies absorb fat soluble Vitamins such as A, D, E & K.

The type of fat; however, and the amount eaten are equally important. A diet low in saturated and trans fat, for example, will reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease. On the other hand polyunsaturated & monosaturated fats are good sources of omega-3 & omega-6 and must be present in our diet.

To the foods in the four food groups we want to Include 35-40 g of unsaturated fat daily to ensure we have enough in our diet. no more is necessary. examples of source:

  • Fat and oil used for your salad dressing or in your cooking-(canola or olive)
  • Mayonnaise
  • Margarine at the table- (Limit butter and hard margarine) soft margarine is ideal.
