April 07, 2009 is World Health Day. This day focuses on the safety of health facilites. The theme: Save lives. Make hospitals safe in emergencies.
A National Policy & Program- In planning a framework for a national policy, each country is encouraged to develop a program to save lives, improve health outcomes and reduce injuries and illnesses. The objectives proposed should include:
- Protect the lives of staff, patients and visitors
- Deliver health services in emergencies
- Protect the economic investment in health facilities
- Facilitate community recovery after emergencies
These are strategies to be considered:
- Development of national policies and programs
- Integration of safety and emergency preparedness in health facility investment projects.
- Application of good practices
